For this project we addressed forecasting and calculation of stockpile material and the logistics of its removal for land remediation off-site. Our client needed excess material to be removed and transported to a designated disposal site. The challenge was to accurately assess the stockpile’s volume to:
- Estimate transportation requirements: Determine the number of trucks, transportation routes, and overall time needed for efficient removal.
- Plan remediation efforts: Understand the landform changes caused by the stockpile and accurately plan the necessary remediation work to restore the original terrain.
- Optimise resource allocation: Accurately estimate the project’s scope and associated costs for efficient resource allocation and budgeting.

Solution:
Site Survey and Flight Planning: We conducted a comprehensive site survey to assess the stockpile’s dimensions, accessibility, and potential hazards. We then planned safe and efficient drone flight paths to capture high-resolution images of the stockpile.
Data Capture and Processing: Our team expertly piloted the drones, capturing detailed aerial images of the stockpile. Advanced software was used to process these images into a precise 3D model.
Volume Calculation and Analysis: We calculated the stockpile’s volume and generated detailed reports, including 3D visualizations, cross-sections, and surface area data. This provided valuable insights for transportation planning and remediation efforts.
